Anyone have any opinions on the Bogdanovich videos? I've considered getting them, but I haven't seen any thoughts shared on them on this forum. I love the book, but I have several questions about things in it. I was wondering if the videos fill in the gaps? |

I have heard excellent things about this video series. The problem with assessing these kinds of question is not knowing your objectives or needs. I would enjoy reading or watching just about anything on guitar making, but that's because it is entertaining. Few and far between are the sources that change anything I do. So are your needs entertainment, learning a starting point, or adding a few tricks. For myself, I find the internet adds the most new tricks at this stage, and I used books back when I picked up the starting point. Also, if you have done lots of projects, you have probably had the experience that your worst fears and questions have obvious solutions as soon as you reach that part of the project. That is the fun part for me. By the way, I would like to pick up all AL issues after 68. Is there a place to advertise that kind of thing? I know there are classified sections, but if they never get this kind of stuff no point in being there. If I am already in trouble please trim me. |

After frustrated attempts to learn what I needed from his books, I purchased the DVD's. I've probably watched each DVD 10 times. Wonderful wealth of information. If you're an experienced Luthier, you'll only get the "nuances" of how John does his building. If you're an amateur trying to figure out x or y of classical guitar building, they're invaluable. John has an easy manner on those videos, and he covers all the bases. He is quick to point out trouble areas, that need special attention. I was watching the binding one today, and found it very interesting. He works very efficiently and very cleanly. I was watching with a friend who has them. I'd say of the couple I've seen, the set would be worth the price. |

The whole thing about laminating the sides was unclear to me from the book. I assume that it is covered in detail in the DVD's. |

Videos are outstanding and he is a good guy if you have questions he has been very responsive and he is a very busy luthier . These are not cheap videos but they are studio quality and are extremely informative. Again the elusive voicing and getting the tone from the brace shaping and other tone effecting nuances are not clear but they are never clear on any video set. Am begining to think or maybe realize that this particular skill cannot be taught it must be learned through trial and error. Great set of DVD's , worth every penny. |
