This guitar has been in the works for some time now and I'm finally confident I've built a quality instrument. It was ordered last April and I spent the summer making a prototype because I'd never built this body style before. Adi top, EIR B/S, African Mahog binding, 5 piece spanish cedar/eir/maple slotted neck. Waverly tuners, Nitro finish. It was built from the Grellier plan but pushed soundhole and bracing back to accomodate the 13 fret design. Here are some pics. Dave ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Looks really nice!!! I like that top, and everything else about it. Congrats! I am wondering what a wider grained top sounds like in comparison to a narrow grained one. Any input on that? I know there are a lot more variables going on, but.... |

Sweet! I bet it sounds as good as it plays. The 00-13fret configuration is an excellent choice, the proportions look really good. Rob |

Nice looking guitar Dave! I want to try a 13 fret 000 one day. Any chance you have pics of your bracing layout for the 13 fret neck join? Thanks for posting these pictures......the new owner should be proud! |

Your guitar is very elegant. I also think we need a sound clip. |

Nice looking guitar Dave. The binding looks good on that beautiful EIR. Bet it sounds great. Did you wind up changing the angle of the X brace when you pushed it down? Tim |

most excellent! that guy looks great!. i too am working with smaller guitars as i feel that they can really benefit people with shoulder problems from playing giant dreads for decades. what string spacing and nut width did you go with? |

If the person that guitar was built for knew that you might be capable of building that, I'm not surprised you got the commission. Expect more of them because that is a very fine guitar. Lots of well executed details and fine materials. |

Thanks guys for all the kind words. The bracing was effectively pushed back about 12mm for the one fret difference. It is a 25.4" scale, which is a little longer than the 24.75 original from the plan. I can't say whether I splayed the X out any or not, as I just put it the same distance below the soundhole as the plan and double checked to make sure the bridge wings would cover the brace. I delivered it this evening and the client got out his 12 year old 000-28EC and did a comparison and was very pleased with what he now has in a hand built, custom instrument made to his own specs. Here's a shot of customer with his guitar. The happy builder is standing nearby. ![]() |
