I got a Precision Inlay tool with the micro-air die grinder for Christmas. John Hall at Blues Creek has them for sale. After a quick call this morning to make sure I was putting it together right (I wasn't duh ), I got it down to the shop for a test. I was also concerned that my small compressor might not have enough CFM (it does).

Ok, for comparison I've been using a Dremel tool with the router base attachment for the last 7 or 8 years.

All I have to say about this new tool is SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET bliss

An air compressor, arbor press (fret press), a new set of chisels, and some small stuff! I love my family.

A set of 2 cherries chisels, and an Ibex bender. It isn't a tool but I also got the Ervin Somogyi books too.

My wife isn't bothered by sawdust either, as long as I don't track it in the house.

Ridgid trim router, which is probably going to go straight on to the binding jig under construction as we speak.

Got me a SAMD (Silent After Midnight Drill press) for Christmas.
Well, it's not really new...

...but after having cleaned the apparatus thoroughly it works pretty well (fully automated and adjustable drill pressure).

It is very useful for "after midnight drill jobs" because my neighbor's dormitory is just below my "workshop". duh

I got a Fox style bender with a custom made Weissenborn Style pattern for my next build from John Hall at Blues Creek Guitars. Of course I can take the Weissenborn Style pattern out and put a different pattern in when I'm ready to build a different model guitar.

My loving wife and daughters got me a true channel binding set-up complete with the whole bearing and bit set as well as the rosette circle cutter from Stew Macs (saves me building the William's one I was planning :D ). They also got me the Simpson neck and body jig. These will help me in my new venture into building flat top guitars. I wonder how they knew  ?

I gave my bride a pretty extensive "wish" list. Told her to pick whatever fell into the budget and don't worry about the rest. Got a few more clothes than I was hoping for but at least these sanding beams made it under the tree from the list.

The LMI binding jig from my wife and an LMI gift certificate from my 85-year-old mother. The one who initially said, "you don't make guitars, you buy guitars." :-)

I got the final installment of the LMI chisels.
My bro has been steadily gifting them to me over the years, and this year he gave the 3 mm.
Very fine chisels, which inspire better work.
Some tools DO lift you above yourself.
Thanks bro!

I got a Bosch variable speed Colt router and a Filterstream Ultima V2510 handheld HEPA vacuum. I have found the old hand held vacuum I had to be very useful. This new one has much more power and, with a HEPA filter, little dust spitting back into the air.

Nothing.
We stopped doing presents several years ago. No malls, no tree, nothing. Instead, we have a little fire in the fireplace, some classical music on public radio, a nice home cooked meal, and we remember our blessings.

This is my new skew shoulder plane. It doesn't really work for lutherie but I just wanted it. For building, I bought myself some Swan and Witherby paring chisels. A few need new handles but they are so nice. :D I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas!

Post subject:  Re: What kind of new tools did you get for Christmas?

I asked for a hand plane that I would not have to spend days tuning and getting ready to use ( new irons, cleaning, truing, etc.) I was expecting a WoodRiver #4 from Woodcraft, but somehow Santa got confused and sent me a new # 4 1/2 Smoother from Lie Nielson instead. I must have been very good or someone is really expecting the quality of my work to improve. Either way, this is one sweet plane and one even nicer Christmas.

My family and wife are so wonderful.
