I am working on my paduak Mando and I would like to use that material for the fretboard dots . I have searched several places and came up empty . Does anyone make padauk Dowels or Plug/plug cutters ? Any Suggestions would be appreciated . Last resort is try and hand cut them . Would like to get to 1/8" |

There are some drill bits you could use to FB dots... like this... http://www.leevalley.com/en/wood/page.aspx?p=42292&cat=1,180,42288&ap=1 Or you could use a lathe to get a round from a square block... Or take a sqare block, drill a hole at the end, CA glue a metal rod there. Put it in your press drill. And slowly round it by place a sanding block 90° on the spinning piece ![]() Francis |

Thanks for the link, problem is I want to get to 1/8" or 3/16" and they stop at 3/8" I have looked at these ,or at least the amana ones , since I am an amana dealer . Seems no one goes as small as im looking for . ![]() And yes I have thought of the other aproaches , Looked over my lathe and hand cutting ideas, was wanting to find easier route if possible first . Apparently that may not exhist ![]() ![]() |

you can make dowels with a simple procedure . drill this size you want through a piece of steel . then a size larger letting the original hole about .030 short of going through . cut your self a square and cut them about 1 inch long and pound them through the plate . You can get serviceable dowels this way. |

You can buy 1/4inch plug cutters. I have one. For the small side markers make a square rod of your chosen wood about the size of a pencil and then stick the end in a good pencil sharpener. Drill your side marker holes any size you want. place the sharpened now round ended rod in hole mark a little long, saw, resharpen, etc. |
