I am looking for Alaskan Yellow Cedar dimensioned to sides for Classical guitars but I have the ability to resaw if necessary. All suppliers I have spoken to only sell this wood for tops. I am using it to line the inside of the guitar sides (John Bogdanovich method). The wood needs to be at least 35 inches in length. I can by from J Bogdanovich but prices are very expensive. I figure there has to be another source for this wood even if it is rough sawn billets. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. |

Shane Neifer at High Mountain Tonewood may have some. Alaska Tonewoods is another source. |

Jackel Hardwood in Watsonville or Gilmer in Portland both stock Yellow Cedar. It won't be a rack of side wood though. One would need to sort through the stack to find what you want and I have absolutely no idea how one would count growth rings on that wood. Love the smell and machines like butter. Good Luck. Tim |

If you can resaw, you should be able to find yellow cedar fairly easily. I know that A&M do a lot of mail-order business, and they would probably pull quartered or rift stock for you. http://www.amwoodinc.com/pricelist.aspx?x=WUTitHcQkRhZXRIEGUtGKw%3d%3d Westwind also stocks Yellow Cedar...might be worth a call... http://www.westwindhardwood.com/price_boat.php John |

I just took a look at Bogdonavich's site. It appears to me that what he's selling is Alaskan Yellow Cedar veneer. Of course you can get it cheaper elsewhere from a veneer retailer. Check Constantine's in New York first because they sell shorts: 36" long. |

http://www.fine-woods.com/id1603.html There's two sets at 40 a piece here. I've dealt with him quite a bit through ebay and everything I get is better than I would have hoped for. |

Definitely email these guys to ask about sides only, orphans, etc. Most sawyers have lots of extras piled up; the prices should be 'right' as well. John |
