Hello everyone. I love this forum even though I have yet to build a guitar. I plan on it though after I reset the neck on my old gibson j50 which I made a mess of first time around. That's next after I finish numbers 2 and 3 F5 mandolins. I've learned a lot since my last effort on the Gibson. I've built 3 cookie tin banjos for my grand kids, real frets and all and quite playable. I've removed the top from my violin and repaired some cracks in it. I reinstalled the top using bottled Titebond hide glue before I new any better. I haven't had any problems with it though and it's been about 10 years. I now use the real thing as much as possible. I've also take the top off a friends very expensive mandolin to repair the broken tone bars and cracked top. It came out beautiful after a lot of struggling and the need to completely refinish it due to my inexperience at removing binding. The guys a good friend and monster mandolin player and is very pleased with the outcome. Thank god. I lost a lot of sleep over that and I never charged him for it. I felt it was good experience for me and it was. I'll never do it again. gaah I built a new neck for my brothers Gibson hounddog. He had it setup with a tall nut which put too much stress on the peg head. After I botched that repair I went ahead and built a square neck for it which is what he should have bought in the first place. I've done a ton of nuts and saddles and setups for people and I love the work and don't charge other than for supplies.

Anyway you'll be hearing a lot from me for the next couple of weeks as I'm stuck in a chair after having surgery on my foot so I'll be adding my 2 cents more often than usual. At least you'll have some background info so you know how much weight give to my input. Oh yeah, I've been a musician for about 42 years and play most stringed instruments almost to my satisfaction. laughing6-hehe
