I devoured the first three chapters of "The Luthier's Handbook" by Siminoff last night. As I slept, I had dreams of sound waves crashing on a beach of sitka spruce... visions of vibrating strings, pulsing lateral and longitudinal.... first, second, and third partials harmonizing with each other.... and then, nightmares of wolf notes  .weird.... |

You are thinking about building a guitar. A guitar can be purchased for less than $200 with a case. You will spend more than that on just the top, back and sides, much more on the rest of the guitar, then add 120 or so hours of hard work to it. You have no idea how it will turn out compared to that $200 guitar. In light of that, why would you assume that anything you think or do would be normal?

Do you really expect a bunch of luthiers to be able to answer that? I mean, how normal are we anyway? |

It is if you read Siminoff....!! A lot of it seems to confuse me ................but then again that's not too hard to do come to think of it...!!! One must try to be honest...!!! Tom |

 Be careful when you try to sleep when counting those sheep--some of them can really be wolf tones.

Yeah, absolutely normal. Wait until you start building in earnest.  I remember when i was in the Air Force. For the first six months of my PDA(Permanent Duty Assignment) I ran a drill all day, then dreamed I was running one all night. It's just your mind going over all the possibilities. That's a good thing. |
