I call it a backbow but not sure if that is the right term. It is bowed toward the fingerboard and happened after glueing fb on. Fb has hump. It had a slight bow before I glue it on but now its bad. I can straighten out with the truss rod (two way rod) but it takes alot of force. It's a 7 pc. with African mohagany on the sides and maple/bloodwood in middle. This was all plain sawn lumber from woodcraft. Don't Know if I should try to fix it or try to remove fb and headplate and make new neck with qtr. sawn lumber this time. The fb has block inlays and headplate has an eagle inlay so don't want to trash them. Any suggestions? |

Hard to say without seeing it but it doesn't sound too good and fretting it will only compound the problem. Should be easy enough to salvage the FB and head plate and start over though. |

If not fretted yet just level the board on the neck if it's not too extreame. |

It's pretty extreme. When I loosen up the truss rod and put a straight edge on the fretboard I have about 3/64" at both ends. the fb itself had a little bit of dive in it before I glued it on. I was planning on leveling it after it was installed on the neck. the trussrod will bring it straight but I don't really want to stress it that much.I rough shaped the neck to see if that helped any and it did make it easier to straighten. I've tried to remove a fretboard once before on a different build and ruined it. I would'nt mind scraping the hole mess if it were'nt for the inlays.I think I can get it off ok this time useing a heat lamp. I didn't know if there was some kind of trick to straightening a neck with water and heat or something. It was glued on with titebond original. No not fretted yet. |

How thick were your inlays? You might get away with it if they were thick enough. You can also try clamping the neck in a caul bowing it the other way and applying heat and letting it cool for a day or so then recheck it. That should help some and get you in the ballpark to relevel. Some of the backbow will be taken out when you string it up also. Just the tension of the strings will do that. |
