Good morning:
Every once in awhile you have to remove a bridge or fretboard for whatever reason. Some people use irons, heat guns or heat blankets. I use halogen work lights, I find them to be easily controllable and fairly safe. This is how I do it.....

The bridge on this parlour had to go for several reasons.

A couple layers of paper towel for insulation.

A layer of foil shiney side up. The halogen work lite from HD is just right. Within 9 minutes the surface temp of the bridge was 314 f. Careful!!!

A judicious application of putty knife and it popped right off with NO finish damage. WOOHOO!

A little clean up where necessary.

Hopefully some of you will find this useful.
Thanks for being here,
Mikey

Coolness. As an aside, I used the guts to one of those lamps to make my pipe bender.

Very nice! What was the type of glue? Do you think that will work with a titebond glued bridge?

I believe that with the application of heat almost all of the common glues will eventually give up. However, having said that, someone will find something that won't oblige.

Mike,
with the bridge plate and X-brace just on the other side, did you notice any softening of their glue joints?

A heat blanket can be controlled so you can dial in a heat . light is radiant and you can't control the temp other than time. I pull bridges cold with a chisel . You can use anything that makes heat to get a glue joint to fail . I prefer contact heaters , for control and less damage . You can fry finishes with lights if you are not careful. There are so many ways to do things , there is no one perfect way to do anything. If it works , that is all that matters .
