Trying to pull some tips from the grand knowledge base out there about bending Macassar ebony. Am I crazy to try and do it by hand on a hot pipe? Any tips or advice would be graciously accepted.

Thanks,

What is the thickness? Very dense wood needs to be thinned more, at least imho. You can bend it with a reasonable effort and the guitar will not weight a ton....

I've done a couple, and I find it a bit more difficult to bend than rosewoods, anyways. I did the one in the picture recently, and the cutaway and bindings were done on a pipe. The most challenging part on this one was the bindings, as there was quite a bit of runout, and ebony with runout is no fun to bend. On the bright side, the darker it is, the easier it is to hide repairs, so with a bit of patience, diligence and some CA glue it should still turn out OK. ;)
