Hi folks, you've seen a few snapshots of this along the way. I'd like to post some pics of the finished piece. This was an interesting project in that the correspondence w/ the customer was done solely via email. We hammered out all sorts of details without a single phone call. (And I hope I got it all right........) So, as stated, back and sides are Ziricote. Top is sinker redwood, and I love this stuff. Neck is mahogany w/ a center lam of Ziricote, bordered w/ b&w veneers. Bindings, fretboard and bridge are African blackwood. Rosette, headplate, backplate and butt wedge are bookmatched Ziricote. Thin Paua ab around the top. Single curly English Sycamore purfling line for side/back purflings. Logo moved to 12th fret, cut from Paua. K&K p'up. Rodgers tuners. Looks absolutely amazing Steve! I love everything about it ... the details like the bookmatched peghead backstrap and that really attractive side wedge really make it for me. I love it! David Wren http://www.wrenguitarworks.com |

Steve, right up to your usual beautiful standard. I have never built with sinker redwood, only with the ordinary LS redwood, but I love the look of that top and the colour blend with the ziricote. I never thought I'd say it, but the shell goes well with woods too. But for me the highlight of the whole guitar is the head, I am a mug for a slothead. Oh, and you must have very wealthy customers to get to use Rodgers tuners! I've only ever used them once, but they are the best. Another great Kinnaird instrument, destined to become an heirloom. Looks fabulous Steve. Great wood combo...very rich! One very tiny comment...string winding looks weird to me. (Outside pairs spool towards center on the tuners, whereas G & D seem to wrap away from center & overlap ... maybe buzz?) (Just me being picky ![]() |

Looks great! Hows the sinker sound? I've got one on my bench right now and it's VERY stiff. |

Let me thank you kind folks sincerely, though I should apologize for the sub-par photography. Every time I pull out the camera, I think "What would John Osthoff do?" Not sure, but obviously not what I do. Bill, I know what you mean. This guitar's aesthetic was a new direction for me, and it has utterly surprised me. I plan on doing more in a similar vein. Colin, you probaby like the fact that the shell is only .047" wide! And thanks for helping out with Dave's question. Your answer is of course correct. The customer can wind them anyway he pleases, but for now I don't want to be the one marring the lacquer. Bobby, the Sinker sounds wonderful. It has the warmth of cedar, and yet a lot of the sparkle of spruce. Also, it has an immediacy to the attack. It speaks quickly, and on top of that this guitar is loud. I find myself having to play much more carefully and if I don't, it advertises my sloppy efforts. Mike, got the cutaway bent today. It's coming, albeit slowly. (Ryan's been gone over the holiday, and I had a little time to work on "our" guitar.) John I looked through my stash of lousy photos, and only found this one shot in the 60KB range: Attachment: A 055.jpg James, the finish is catalyzed urethane on the body, and nitro lacquer on the neck. I really do appreciate the kindness you've shown. One last shot--the sound port: Attachment: A 061.jpg Steve |

Steve, I just noticed the care and effort you put into the rosette so it's details would line up as closely as possible with the stripes in the top. Awesome work Bro!!! ![]() ![]() |

Beautiful Steve! How does Zircote compare tonewise to other familiar woods? Is it fairly dense? I love the look of the redwood tops......and this striped one is striking. Thanks for the pics Steve. |

That's a great looking guitar, Steve, for a steel string! The Rogers tuners are, well as Colin said, the best. Bill, you beat me to the punch! I was going to point out how nicely the grain of the rosette lined up with that of the top. I'm not normally a fan of the basic circle of wood rosette, but in this case it is classy. The volute is well proportioned, too. Too bad about all that gloss... ![]() |

Steve, That is a nice looking guitar. Really like the way you carried the sapwood through to the eng graft, headstock and to some extent the top top also with that lighter colored stripe. Nice lookin sinker top too. Only question I would have is how heavy is the neck with the ziricote stringer? and what you couldn't find a piece with sapwood? ![]() Tim |
