You can see in the first link, middle top thumbnail, if you open, it's there. It looks about an inch? at a guess, I've heard archtops can be made with an "induced" recurve, presumable with bracing recurved only, saving carving time for the top. This would be similar to what I've been doing, flat rims on top, but with a 28 foot radiused top, which results in a slight recurve rather than a straight dome (looking for a bit more fundamental in the sound). Maybe it could be done with a flat rim, recurved X (I don't know about the sound - archtops are not normally braced this way) and other braces on the top, fitting the bracing with cauls on the other side of the top (building board/ shaped cauls and go-bar deck?) to match the recurved braces, but I don't know how much a top could be "induced". An inch sounds a lot! |

Hi, sorry, not many responses. Have you tried google searches? In case you haven't seen it, here's a link to videos about Pagelli http://www.customguitarvideo.com/2009/09/21/custom-guitar-video-pagelli/ Ladder-bracing could also be used to induce an arch, but I see Eastman says they are all hand carved. Good luck Colin |
