If you had to build an instrument with a species of wood that you do not have 100% confidence won't crack, during both the build process and also it's finished life, what process would you use to stabilize it? I say "had to build" 'cause it's just so darn nice of a set! Thanks, Ray |

I am in the same boat as well, just cannot resist using this ziricote set that already has cracks. I think the only thing you can really do is to flood with CA glue, about to do that with my set. That is a nice set. I was at their warehouse Tuesday and came very close to buying a set but the need for more practical materials won out (also considered what it would do to the Christmas funds). Jerry and Nancy at Hibdon are nice people and look out for your material needs (guitar-wise that is) |

i bought a really similar set from hibdon. great people by the way. payed an excellent price for the wood. it shipped like 5 seconds after i ordered it and jerry threw in a free cocobolo bridge. what more can you ask for? so what makes you think it is prone to cracking? it does have that jagged bit along the edge of the back, but i dont think i would be too fearful. i dont think cocobolo is known for being so unstable. my 2 cents. |

Great looking set, most coco is quite stable too. Some you find with very tight knots can be reactive and will move in all directions forever, but your set looks pretty good as is. I would let it sit for a while if has just been purchased though, that bright orange makes it look quite fresh off the saw. I would suggest that you sticker it for a few weeks in your shop so it has time to settle in and oxidize a bit before you build. Cheers Kim |
