| Post subject: | Resawing Wood in or around Connecticut? |
Hello everyone, I have some guatamalen rosewood that I need to have resawed, and I was wondering if there was anyone in Connecticut or in the Connecticut area who would be able to resaw this wood (I live in New Haven, CT). All the pieces (there are bout 8 to 10 pieces) are about 1 inch thick. There are 3 or 4 pieces that are up to 30 inches long and up to 7 inches wide, and there are 4 or 5 pieces that are 5-6 inches wide and 20 inches long. If this is too much, then I would be glad to have the opportunity to get just a few of the pieces resawn. I will be glad to pay for this help, and if there is anything I could do to help in return, I would be glad to do so. Thank you so much, Jonas |

Hi Jonas, I grew up in Cheshire but have lived in Albany the past 35 years. John Hall at Blues Creek guitars can perform this service for you if you can ship or drive your material down to him in PA. |

Thank you David, Too bad you don't still live in Cheshire, as it would have been great to have such an amazing guitar builder so close by. Thank you for letting me know about John Hall, if I don't find anyone nearby, I will definitely consider going to him or sending him my wood as I have the utmost confidence in his work. (I have one of his molds and I highly recommend them for those who don't want to make one themselves). |

I don't suppose you happen to be affiliated with Yale? There is a cabinetmaker in the Berkeley College woodshop who is pretty skilled--Mark Messier is his name. He might be able to help you out. |

Hi Evan, Actually I work for Yale, at the Sterling Memorial Library. I had no idea there was a woodshop in Berkeley College, or anywhere on the Yale Campus for that matter. I'll contact Mr. Messier and let you know how it turns out. Thanks for the tip. |

Neat! SML is one of my top three favorite buildings in the world. I was sorry to hear about Frank Turner last week. I believe the architecture school has a woodshop as well, and I've heard they have a great setup, but I've never seen it. And apparently Jonathan Edwards College has a woodshop as well--that might be new. |

Hey Jonas, Stop in and say hi to my brother Richard LaPlante, he works in the Media and Photo services unit at Yale, I know they do lots of work for the libraries at the university. Richard has possesion of the Hauser '37 copy that I made several years ago. |

Thank you David and Evan, What a small world it is. I would love to have the chance to play one of your guitars David. I'm sure your brother has done work for the library that I work for, as it's the main library on campus. Evan, thank you for letting me know about the various wood shops right on the campus. It always surprises me to hear these kind of things whether it's the bluegrass playing professors or now that there are woodshops on campus. I will definitely look into this and let you know how it goes. Jonas |

Check out Parkerville Wood Products in Manchester CT. Dave Harris, formerly of Harris Woodworking owns it. They have hardwood stock for sale, provide shop services on the hardwood they sell, and will service pieces brought in. Pretty decent selection of domestics and foreign hardwoods. some softwoods too. i found a nice 4/4 8' piece of western red cedar. b |

There's also a place in Bethel, Kellog Hardwoods. They'll do it, but I'm not sure how thin they'll go. I asked there and at Parkerville but can't really remember what the answer was. Kinda remember funny looks when I asked for .150" though. Give 'em a call and let us know if you hit on something. Wood finder also says there's a place in Branford, and it says he sells musical instrunebt wood, The Wood Rack..... |
