Got this link to a vid in my inbox from an electronics magazine. Thought it might interest some. I'm not sure what's so revolutionary about it....to me it seems like they've moved a Line 6 Pod XT (or similar guitar sound processor) into the body of a cool-looking electric.

See the video here.

What do you think?

Cheers,
Dave F.

You know better is the enemy of good... There was a lot of mojo in that old electric sound. Started to plasticize after the 80s and now it is quite bland. I really dig computers and all that but not in music.

I saw the title, and thought "Uh oh, here we go again with the revolutionary stuff..." then I noticed it was a Gibson. beehive

Whatever its merits may be, the video sure didn't show it off much.

Man, that axe can be like a bunch of different axes...like a varitone can be like a bunch of different tone pots...they should call it the Variaxe!

I like their repeated used of the term 'sterile digital math' over and over as if their system wasn't digital...it's even named Pure Analog! Not that I think we're too far off from digital output too close to discern from analog, but badmouthing the very system you're using and then naming it something else is an interesting marketing tactic :)

Well....it's something I can't make...so I suppose this is a rationalization...

...but this isn't something I'd ever buy.

Plus, I'm a little tired of having non-revolutionary things being called "revolutionary" in an effort to persuade me that my current, functioning, versatile gear is antiquated.

I'm happy plugging my Les Paul (or non-Gibson guitar) into my Line 6 Pod Pro XT,
I don't need any more learning curves than I already have,
and I don't see a huge market for this.

Cool beast,
but not for me.
When something goes wrong with the electronics,
who ya gonna call?
Have to be Gibson!
How much it cost?

Wrap some wires around some magnets and solder it to a jack! That's about as electrical as it should get anything else and your not playing guitar!

I never liked electronics onboard a guitar like that. Things change so fast that its better to keep that stuff in a separate box you can swap every few years.
The beauty of the electric guitar is how timeless it has been. A 50yr old guitar can still sound great, plug into any amp or effect (even a digital converter), can get strings and parts in any modern day guitar shop, and function as well as one made last week. What other electric music device can claim that?? idunno
I do kinda like the robo-tuners though...its a gimmick but usefull and cool anyway. Hope they still make them in 20yrs when you have to replace one

THIS, is revolutionary 8-)

Quote Jack White "Who says you need to buy a guitar?" 8-)

PS, if you haven't seen this movie.......you're missing out on some very cool history and some pretty cool music and artists.

I think the guitar would be great for a song writer demoing into a computer. However, I can't imagine the time it would take between songs for our lead player to find the sound with this thing. A mid range EQ knob on his amp added 2 or 3 minutes.

I still love that firebird shape.

I think it will be just as revolutionary as the Segway, which as we know, revolutionized personal transportation for all of us.

On a personal note, as a builder and lover of many guitars, I find the idea of only needing 'one guitar' to be indescribably nightmarish.
