Post subject:  Bosch Colt variable speed ok?

I'm looking to purchase a lam trimmer and it comes down to the Bosch Colt or the Porter 7310.

I'm leaning towards the Bosch.

There are two models.

PR10E = Single speed, running at 35,000 RPM

PR20E = Variable speed with a top end of 35,000 RPM

Am I ok going with the variable speed for cutting rosette channels and binding ledges even if I only use it at full speed? The variable unit comes with a case and a guide and is only $5 more on Amazon. Seems like it would be well worth the $5

Thoughts?

thanks

Paul,

I have the Bosch Colt variable speed version and I run it full speed all the time. I use it for rosette and binding channels and pretty much everything else. I've had it well over a year and have had no problems. It's a great unit. I have no experience with the PC.

All The Best,
Dan

I have 2 PR20s. I've had no issues with either one. I usually run mine at full speed too so I probably wouldn't bother with the variable speed if I was going to buy another. I do like the soft start, however.

Paul,

I have the variable speed Colt. Love it. I use the variable speed function often, but most importantly, it has a micro depth adjustment which works very well.

Chris.

I have the variable speed but to be honest I run it full speed all the time. I have not had any problems with it. I bought it in June of this year.

I have a PC 7310, a Bosch Colt, and a cheapo Harbor Freight unit. At times I wish I had a 4th! Of the three, the Colt is the most user friendly. The Colt base is easier to adjust and squares up better than PC.
