Post subject:  my morning story
This morning I'm leaving to go to the shop and I have a bag with me with a bunch of tools in it plus a few parts for my current build. I put it on top of the car for a sec but I forget about it and drive away. At the shop a half hour away I realize what happened, so I drive all the way back and....it's gone... :cry:

Sorry to hear that! I've done the same thing and I can't imagine a worse feeling than when you realize what's happened. [headinwall]

If it makes you feel any better (I know, it probably won't [xx(] ) I had a customer do that with a guitar I'd just built for him...it was never found...

If you are going to set stuff on your car always put it on the drivers side hood. That trick has served me well.

Been there-done that. Left my harp case on the top of the car driving to a gig. Something caught my eye in the rear view mirror . My case was bouncing down the highway and cars were swerving to avoid it.

If you think you were bad, check out this famous story;

In 1967 a 1732 Strad, named for the Duke of Alcantara and owned by UCLA’s Department of Music, was loaned to a member of UCLA’s Roth String Quartet. He apparently either left it on top of his car and drove off, or had it stolen from inside his car. A woman turned up with it in 1994, claiming her former husband’s aunt had given it to her husband, and she had acquired it in a divorce settlement. She said their family lore had it that the aunt had found the violin beside a road. UCLA eventually gave the woman $11,500 to regain the violin and avoid a protracted court fight.

:shock: By harp, do you mean harp? Or harmonica? Or harp guitar? Two of those would make quite a distraction bouncing down the road!

Oh man, all those things are much worse to lose than what I lost. I would be devastated if I drove off with a nice instrument on the roof... :shock: ...Thanks for the support guys. On a lighter note, my build is coming along awesome and I'm very excited to finish it and show you guys. Keep on smiling [:Y:]

Been there, done that. Hope your tools weren't very expensive.
The most embarrassing time I did something like this was at church. I play guitar(as well as other instruments) at church. Imagine my embarrassment when, after loading my gear into the car, I drive off in view of the whole church with my bible on top of the car. wow7-eyes Not good for a Sunday School teacher and lay preacher.
I got about 75 yards before I realized what had happened. The bible rode quite well on top of the car before I retrieved it. [:Y:]

Man - bummer. I've done that with a cup of coffee - but the implications were far less dire... just a bit of a mess on the back window.

OMG that one takes the cake right there, poor guy :(

I feel your pain Mr eight, been there done that myself. Last year I ran over my $2000 cyclocross bike. Fortunately it was just the saddle that got crushed. Now I never leave anything on or behind my car... NEVER!
