Big day for me, strung up my #6 steel string. This build featured my first attempt at a backstrap and a bound fingerboard. Lutz, EIR, Bloodwood binding and Padauck for the rosette and headstock:

Looks good Robbie! I feel for ya Chris, I've got a nasty cold that started yesterday. Loaded up on cold meds last night and this morning, so no power tools for me this weekend. Spent a couple hours in the shop at work yesterday using the milling machine to route out some 1/2" acrylic for the Woolson Neck Jig I'm making. Trimmed the new center strip for the back to length and cut my binding strips last night before taking the cold medicine. Today I'm working on installing the EIR binding I bent monday night on the back and top. Note to those using CA for binding: Watch for drips! Little Big Boy is coming along... Braced the top yesterday. Got the outside mould made today, but still have to make the bending form and spreaders.

Finished (I think) spraying my first sunburst and am finishing up the clear coats. Will level and spray a flow coat tomorrow and then wait! There's some lovely work on display above. Wow! Nice job, fellas. Hope all you cold sufferers get well soon. I made a fingerboard today--my first time! I bought an LMI fret cutting jig off the classifieds quite some time ago and finally got around to using it. Seems like it went pretty well. George :-)

Finally cleaned up and changed the strings on my ma's Rioji Matsuoka classical for her. Man, does that thing sound nice! Organized screws, nuts and bolts. Man, does that feel nice! |

I got to use the neck tenon jig I just finished making. Then I got to use my OLF Enhanced Fretting Template for the first time as well as Shane's blade. I also used Tracy's fretboard radius sanding thing. I was going to try using a big round under bit to try and shape the neck, but my router is single speed and I decided I was afraid. Instead, I just went after it with the spokeshave and rasp. This is the first instrument on which I'm final shaping the neck off the body, and so far, the body is staying free of stray chisel marks. It's starting to look like I might actually finish the parlor for my nephew in time for Christmas. Tomorrow, I'll be making a new doughnut for my binding channel cutter and gluing in some bindings on an MJ with a buddy of mine. Mike |

Chris, sounds like a tough week! I'm getting over a cold as well. Rob, gorgeous guitar! I love the rosette! I got the body of my J-185-ish bound, scraped, and final sanded. lots of firsts, lots of sanding... finished the headstock.  carved the neck.  It's a little chunky but really comfortable. I used a burn-in lacquer stick for the first time- that was amazing. I also laid the first coat of z-poxy on the body. It's so exciting to see the grain pop. Ken, that is really inspirational, clean work. |

Wow. Some very impressive stuff. Love that Walnut grain. I've been working on a body for the neck of my second guitar, which was myrtle, and was broken i  n an accident. This one is going to be Koa. I thinned out sides, top and back, using a smoothing plane and belt sander, then bent the sides with my home made light bulb bender and a heating blanket I got at LMI's old as is outlet. I was worried because it was my first Koa bend and I'd read it was not easy, but that blanket is so effective I had no problems at all. A definite boost in confidence. The economy hit me hard and I had to move to a small affordable house in San Pablo, so this is my first effort in two or three years. This summer I built a small workshop in the backyard and it is to my surprise an improvement from my old garage shop. Never give up.

I started finish on one and got two other boxes started, a ziricote and a claro walnut. Steve, those Rogers are beautiful! Ken, that Walnut is awesome. |

Finishing up another Ome Banjo carved heel. Been trying to finish this OM figured maple (design carved heel, back peghead and maple leaf fret extension and soundhole) for about 3 months now. Bridge is next. That'll be a trick!...but confident I have a practiced method and correct custom made clamps to do the job thru the small center soundhole. Got 2 (L-OO's) in the works. sides bent yesterday 1 curly Koa and 1 Cocobola. Looking forward to both of those builds. X-mas guitars to my 2 sons. I'll post pictures as soon as I have time to take some. Can't want to start my recent purchased Zircote and Imbuyia (behind guitar photo) classical guitar projects. 1 six string hauser and 1-- 8 string Kent fan brace design. Kent Bailey www.kabart.com |

Kent--beautiful! I love maple. David, thanks. My customer did it the hard way--dealt with Rogers himself (his son, I think) and waited for his slot on the queue to come up. A few weeks before time to commit, we had a number of email discussions on what to choose, which model, material, buttons, etc. Both of us are happy as clams with the outcome. NOthin goin down in me shop... Me number 3 (youngest) son is visiting...passing through on his way to Fort Mc Money, so its a 'Om' brew, borscht and cabbage roles weekend. Yay. Then its a few dump runs (him gotts a big truck) then its off on a trip for me (family matters) for a few days and finally, yes finally, prays the Lord, say hallelujah, its shop time for  Padma. Yay!So yes ...all being a go, me should be posting me building nonsense for your reading pleasure in about another week. I cleaned up the bindings on #1 getting ready to fit the neck. Can’t wait to finish this one…it’s been more than a year since I started. It’s a Sitka/EIR rosewood D from a Martin kit. It will be my 16 year old son’s. Attachment: 1-Front.JPG Attachment: 1-Tail.JPG I joined the back, glued up the reinforcement strip and touched up the sides on #2. This one is an Adi/EIR D from a partial Martin kit and will go to my 14 year old son. Attachment: 2-Back and Sides.JPG Today I removed the shellac coating and thickness the back and side plates on a Guatamalan RW set. This one will be a Lutz-topped 000, and I’m keepin’ this one for myself. Attachment: 3-Planing Back and Sides.JPG As you may have noticed, my “shop” doubles as the kitchen. I have a VERY supportive and understanding wife.

While I prep #9 for finish, I started to put together some bits for #10, which is going to have a cutaway (  )-really fine grade bear-claw Euro top with a book matched Madagascar rosette. The headplate is from the same board (this was a soft fretboard blank which I sliced up with a Jap saw and bookmatched it ) -FB is African Blackwood, with more grain showing than what the photo suggests. I think it will echo the back nicely: tight grained and dark but still a bit stripey Indian RW. I actually have a couple sets of Madagascar with ink lines for the perfect overall match but the guy insisted on Indian... ![[headinwall]](./images/smilies/headbangwalluf8.gif "Mad")

I've been going hammer & tongs on a maple / Euro, mid sized jumbo. The other pic is current work. Mun ebony OM (sorta) Small bodied steel string based on Hauser classical shape. Did four guitars for myself last year...one is left, and that's because it's a Size 5 that I've overpriced (BTW, tuned E-E, it still plays and sounds great). Started two more recently for personal use (another slope shoulder jumbo and a grand aud)...I think the jumbo will be sold before I get the side tapes in. I'm beginning to think that the best way to sell a guitar is to decide to build it for my own use. Sorry to hear it, Todd. Not to rub it in, but I'm pretty sure I won't have that problem, at least not for a very long time.
