After many searches on line for a program that allowed me to manage customer info and well as build schedules, options and orders I found this luthier software from Luthier's Journal right after it got launched ( or close to) and liked it a bunch. Unfortunately I am a MAC user and the software was only available for PC platforms. Even though I had the option to use Parallels or VMFusion to run it on my Mac I decided to get quickbooks for Mac and get it over with. Almost a year later and very frustrated with Quickbooks which happens to be nothing in the realm of Luthier friendly I turned back to Whistling Fish and to my surprise Pete ( who happens to be a builder in his spare time) is now working on a Mac version!! I have now given up and for the time being will be using the Luthier Journal software PC version until the new Mac version is available. The "Luthier Journal" software allows you to log builds, options, prices, create invoices and keep all your customer's information along with pictures and detailed build specs. He also has a version for techs and repair shops!Made by a builder for builders. You should check him out. He is doing great work! |

Last night I downloaded the free trial of QuickBooks 2011 for Mac and was wondering if it would ever work for lutherie wereI able to actually make money building someday. I was also wondering what else might be out there that would be better suited for a builder or repairperson, and came on here this morning to ask what people are using. I'm going to be using Parallels anyway for some other Windows stuff I have, I so I may have to try this out. Thanks for the post, Peter! Josh |

I just downloaded the trial version of Luthier's Workbench and it looks really promising and it is not too expensive. Thanks Peter! |
