I am interested in acquiring pre-carved (CNC) solid top & back plates. Any information on suppliers or luthiers that have this material available would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. |

Try Dave Smith at Smith Creek Music. He sells some very nice CNC carved Red spruce tops and maple backs. The link to his site is: http://www.smithcreekmandolin.com/ He has some top and back sets on eBay right now. Here's one: http://cgi.ebay.com/CNC-Carved-17-Archtop-Guitar-Top-Back-Plate-Set-/160492484893?pt=Guitar_Accessories&hash=item255e18f91d#ht_7301wt_1140 Dave's a great guy too. |

Padma - Thanks for the links. I have written to the second supplier you listed to see if they are large enough for my needs. Have you used either of these materials? If so what size was the body? |

CharlieT - Thanks for the info. Those plates look excellent. However, I should have been more specific about my needs. I would like to find something for around $100-150 for each plate as the instrument I plan to make does not require such highly figured wood. |

While laminated tops and backs may be good for folks beginning archtop building, they will never come close to carved solid top instruments. Dave Smith at Smith Creek Mandolins has the goods for CNC archtop instruments. It's excellent wood. |
