Todd, that is one of the most beautiful guitars I've ever seen. Seriously, that top with that rosette is so stunning. You are so talented! Alan Oh, I'm talking about the big one. Little one ain't too shabby either. Give your' friend my best. No pics of new finished ones, cuz none are, but they're getting there. |

The only pic I have so far of my first finished guitar. Unfortunately it's a cell phone pic... not the best quality. Archtop w/ bearclaw spruce top, walnut/maple/walnut back, local walnut sides and neck, bocote fingerboard, truss rod cover, pickup mounting rings, and pickguard (not installed yet), ziricote headstock veneer, and flamed maple binding. Lindy Fralin humbuckers and single coil. ![]() |

I was severely depressed for the first couple of weeks after finding out I have cancer. Being only 42 it really caught me off guard. I haven't been able to work since the 17th of Sept. I thank God everyday for my wife. She has helped me through this everyday and has put up with me spending hours upon hours alone in the shop, understanding my need to spend some time with just me, God and work to come to terms with all of this. She has kept my coffee cup full and even brought some of my meals out here. Only intruding when asked or when she knew I was overdoing it. They don't make many like her. I haven't been posting because I have preferred to remain in the back ground, reading, studying and focusing on building , it has been my "Cancer Therapy" you might say. I feel for your friend Todd and hope he makes a quick recovery and that this thread will fill up and bring a little enjoyment to his day. This is my second guitar, I built it in 3 weeks. My Parents and my Sister came over last night and we had a stringing up party. Alaskan Yellow Cedar Top bought during the swap meet. Bubinga Back and Sides from John Hall at Blues Creek Guitars. Thanks John. Sapele Binding that I cut out of some back and side sets I had re-sawed. It was supposed to have Snake Wood binding from Chris V, but being off work I couldn't afford the extra expense. Sorry Chris, I hope we can do the deal later on for a different build. Zipflex .047 purfling and rosette. Either when I was visiting John Mayes or in one of his posts, he had said this was a nice size without being over powering. As usual he was right. Just enough bling without distracting from the rest of the guitar. Bubinga headstock overlay, back strap, heel cap and end graft. All book matched except the end graft. Schaller/Martin tuners from John Hall. Ebony bridge pins, end pin,(both have pau abolone dot inlays), fret board, tuner buttons and bridge. Also from John Hall Bone nut and saddle. Mahogany one piece neck, my first dovetail. My own headstock design with my new logo on it! ![]() Minwax Wipe on poly. I'll put up a youtube video in a little while but you have to excuse my playing. I'm out of practice and never was very good. ![]() Enjoy! |

My heart goes out to all who suffer, and especially those suffering from cancer. Tim, I am glad you can find some kind of healing in the shop and I hope recovery is on the way. I love to see these works of practical art in the form of guitars. Cheers. |

Really great looking gtars guys! Here's another 0 size 14 fret I finished a couple of weeks ago. The top is one of Kent Chasson's $25.00 redwood tops he had for sale recently (thanks Kent!). The neck, back and sides are black cherry from a tree my neighbor cut down. So around $100.00 total in this one. Oh yeah, I am very happy with the sound and power this little gtar has! Thanks for looking, Chuck |

Dave Newton: Different approach with the herringbone. Think I may try that next time.Hard to get the right pieces of purfling so that they end with a X or a diamond.I would think they must match and run together very nicely this way. Congrats on the guitar. Not sure if this is the same one as on the UMGF....?? You do very nice work. Tom |
