I just tried cleaning my bending iron with this stuff. It really did a good job of removing all the old blackened and burnt rosewood resin. A "scotch brite" pad was helpful in additionally scrubbing the aluminum heating element really clean. |

Good tip, David! I have some of it, but almost never use it. I try not to do any more painting than I have to! ![]() |

Good tip David. I have been wrapping my iron with aluminum foil & replacing it when it gets covered in tar. |

Thanks for the tip, David. My bending iron is looking pretty grungy. So I will give it a try. Max |

I’ve had a small can of it that’s lasted for over 20 years now. It works great… but… I will not use it inside the house or without protective gloves due to the extremely strong organic vapors it gives off. They have a milder version of the stuff with less fumes but it doesn’t work nearly as well. Joe |

I know what you mean Joe, I should have mentioned that I did the work outside. I'm guessing that this is mostly mneral spirits but there are additional solvents which seem to give it more "kick". Good ventilation is a must with this stuff. |

I used to use this stuff when I worked as a painter over the summers in college, and it definitely worked great for removing paint and residues, but I have to agree with the prior posts that you should definitely not use it indoors and without a good mask. It definitely gave me some sort of horrible buzz after using it indoors for any length of time, and I remember the health warnings written on the side of the bottles being pretty serious in terms of it's potential negative health affects. I personally stay away from it. |
