I'm trying make a template to use for routing the tenon on my necks. I know a lot of you are fans of the tight fit. Does anyone have suggestions on how to get the template right? I'm struggling with getting the sides parallel. Finally got them square though (well at least on one side). And no, I don't have a good reason for not just buying a set except I don't want to.

Thanks,
Mike

Thanks Todd! I made it out of wood first, but I cut it out and shaped it by hand. If I built it from parts, I could cut the tongue on the table saw, then the sides would match up.

More good tips, Todd. Thanks. I think I've got it done now. Sleeping on it before I go again. The last test was a great tight fit, but the neck was slightly twisted relative to the body. After I recut the mortise template to be squarer, I realized that would have been a perfect time to use the set screws I put in the edges to align the plate. Figured that meant it was time to call it quits for the evening.

Now to the archives to make sure I'm using this jig right before I put an actual guitar though it.

Mike
