Hi guys! I heard a while ago that Bubinga (Guibourtia spp.: G. demeusei, G. pellegriniana, G. tessmannii, etc.) is an endangered specie. I cannot find it in any list (CITES or IUCN for example). Do you guys have some more informations about it? Thanks! |

Thank you, good to know! I used to follow a guide by greenpeace but I found out that many of the woods listed there are not actually "endangered". They just suggest to avoid them on applications like parquets, etc... I'll just look at lists like IUCN and CITES from now on. |

Yep, I've read it on some article posted in this forum. I suppose that those species will be inserted soon in those lists! Or is there some reason for them not being listed yet? |

Just a little OT, in your opinion is bubinga fairly workable (given the hardness) or does it dull the tools very fast? (for example for high silica content, like Ipe) |

bubinga is available and works pretty well. highly figured bubinga is hard to bend without some faceting. I will bend it a bit thinker .095 so I can sand it level. Waterfall will facet so you may have to build up some finish to get it level, super soft may help with that. I also use a bit more heat and less water |
