Post subject:  Red Cedar Jumbo soundboard thickness?

I'm building a Jumbo right now with a WRC soundboard. This is my first time working with the stuff, so I'm not sure how thick to go. My plans call for 3mm thick for spruce, but I've taken it down to about 3.5mm and I'm not sure if I should go any further. Any thoughts?

The only reliable way to tell is to make a measurement of the actual stiffness/Young's modulus. I rely on the long-grain stiffness to determine thickness, but that's just me. There are good and fairly simple ways to get that number, and we've talked about them a lot.

Failing that, WRC is usually less dense and stiff than spruce. you'd be on the safe side making this top about 10% thicker than a spruce top that worked out well for you. If it's a particularly light piece, leave it a little thicker.
