Hi Guys here are some pics of my latest instrument it's a tenor sized uke in the style of a jumbo bodied guitar it was a present for my nephews 7th birthday he chose the wood and shape its oak back and sides with a cedar top with faux tortise shell binding finished with Tru-oil ![]() ![]() The back looks a bit funky in the photo its just my poor photography! |

Nice work John. How does the greater volume affect the sound? Cecil |

Did you do any pore-filling before oiling? I really like the look and the finish. Beth |

Hi Everyone, Thanks for all the kind words, Cecil not being a hard core uke player I didn't notice much difference in the sound but a friend said it's less bright, than his tenor ukes I'm not sure if it's the Cedar top rather than mahogany or the body shape. Beth I used the egg white pore fill method on this build as recommended by Colin S, I've now tried epoxy, superglue and egg white pore filling and egg whites are certainly less toxic but don't make the grain in the wood pop out at you as much epoxy. |
