Post subject:  wood sugestion for a cutaway

what woods are better adapted for bending a cutaway..and what should I avoid..I have a fox style bender with a cutaway press, I have it equiped with a PID to control the blanket..I have bent an OM and a OOO but no cutaway...I bent some Bubinga which was easy , but I was bending some amazon rosewood today for a OM that I am currently bulding and found it to be very hard and somewhat brittle and was thinnking there was no way that that would bend the tight cutaway...I was wanting to use cocobolo but I have only bent cocobolo bindings which seemed easy enough, I have the molds built for a dreadnought cutaway. Any advise would be greatly appreciated...

I bend by hand, but no issues so far bending Black Walnut (unfigured), Figured Oregon Myrtle and Mad Rosewood for venetian cutaways.....

Don't know how many guitars you've made (ie: bending experience) but my first cutaways were EIR which I find bends real cooperatively.

I find Ash will also take a tight bend.

Cocobolo, like EIR, is a dream to bend. Most rosewoods are. Check for and avoid runout, on any piece.

I broke 3 pieces of mahogany before I got it right, on the pipe.

EIR, cocobolo, or walnut...NOT curly anigre or figured mahogany. You can increase your chances of a successful bend in most highly figured woods (non-rosewoods) by using SuperSoft II.

What's your schedule for using Super Soft to bend sides Todd?

Quarter sawn rosewoods & Imbuia !
You san make pretzels with these woods!
I'd take the cutaway thickness down to .070
Or 1.8mm

Cocobolo is easy.

I hear bubinga is hard to bend. So you are probably ahead of the game.
