I have seen some cool laminated necks on many builds here and thought it would be a great thread to start. A photo or more of the back of your neck and a list of woods used would be nice to see.

Hey Fred.
I made this bass 18 years ago.
only lam neck for me.
Padauk and maple.
The padauk looks even muddier in person than the photo shows.
A cosideration for using it.
Got a lot of bling at first,
then turns mud-brown.
Same with purple heart.

Where can one get black ebony for laminating, all I ever see in thin cuts is the striped ebony.

I buy it in White Plains, New York at Condon's Lumber - I buy it in pieces that are about 1" by 3" by 3 feet. very expensive, and I rip it into the laminate strips that I need. There may be a specialty lumber place near you where you can find similar dimensions.

Very nice Laurent! I like the subtle effect of the maple sandwiched between the mahogany.

I usually don't laminate necks, but this one called for it. Honduras/ebony/holly...

Thanks guys, these are some cool necks, and it looks like almost any combo can look good if properly done.

Here are a couple of laminated necks that I have. The one on the right I made for my guitar building class. Light mahogany with dark mahogany and maple laminations. The one on the left is from Hanalei Moon. I bought it second hand so I don't know what woods were ordered, but is sure is nice looking.

Here is my last one. I used HM and a thin strip of black paper fiber that I got from John Watkins a while back. Makes for a very elegant looking neck.
