I'm about to start building a L-00. I want to build a 12 fret model but have the Grellier 14 fret plans. I'm wondering if the angle of the X brace needs to be changed or if the X, tone bars and sound hole can just be moved back the distance of the two frets? Thanks, Logan |

For me, everything revolves around the bridge and saddle position. That is "ground zero" Once you know that, I work the X braces so that they cross the wings of the bridge. So basically the X brace angle can be the same, but it is shifted based on the 12 fret bridge position. Some builders, me included, will change the X brace angle since the bridge is closer to the tail block. I use a slightly shallower angle so that regardless of what bridge position I use, the X braces crosses the saddle at the same point. |

Andy, Good to see you here. It's been awhile! Logan, I'm just winding up a 12-fret L-00 where I moved everything down to match the new bridge location. You can have a look at it here. The first pic is the bracing layout http://patfosterguitars.com/process/page7/page7.html Pat |

It looks as though when shifting the braces back you run out of room for the second tone bar as it would be so close to the tail block. Pat those are some great photo's, thanks for the link. |

Logan I to plan on making a 12 fret from the same plans you have. I have downloaded the cad plans and have been playing with the 12 fret brace, and sound hole locations. If I can figure out how I'll attach a jpeg of my cad drawing. I kept the same scale and moved the bracing and soundhole. I didnt change the angles of the bracing or their locations in relation to each other. I just made them longer or shorter as required. Steve |
