Hey, its been a very long long time since I was last on here and as im gearing up to try and build my second, I realized I never did post pics of my first. She took me just under a year to build and I finished in March. Here is the layout: Top: Sitka spruce B&S: French Curly Walnut Neck: Mahogany (african I think) Fretboard: Zircote Headstock plate & heelcap: Macassar Ebony End Cap: walnut Rosette: Brazillian Rosewood Bridge: Indian Rosewood Finish: EM6000 Waterbourne Laquer I got all of my wood from Exotic Woods out of Burlington Ontario. I would like to thank their resident guitar builder Joe for helping me so much from start to finish and also the countless people that have helped me on this forum. In the end im stunned it came out so well, what started out as a day dream of "i wonder if I can build a guitar" turned into a beautiful piece of work, i still can't believe I did it lol.....all on my kitchen table too lol. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() In the end it plays great, its got a decient low end on it but its still a finger-picking guitar which is kinda what I was aiming for. there is more "strategically placed blemishes" then I can recount but it was a blast. thanks for looking |

Good job and good to see another Canadian on the OLF, we will have enough to take over soon. I will second Exotic woods and add A&M to that. I will be posting photos real soon of a Dread with top from Exotic and back and sides from A&M. It is great when we can avoid the border with suppliers, though Uncle Bob (RC tonewood) is still high on my spending list. ![]() ![]() ![]() Fred |

That's a beauty, Michael. I personally like light colored sides and backs. Go Michael, go! |

Interesting choice of fingerboard material, I have never coma across that before - is that more akin to rosewood ? Beautiful colors - nice job John |

great looking guitar. It really caught my eye because I'm doing a OM now with a similar grain stripe in the sides. I hope it comes out as nice |

Thanks for the kind words guys, I really appereciate it. StevenWheeler, I don't really know what to do for my 2nd, im kinda torn in between doing another acoustic or maybe taking a stab at trying an electric. All thats certain is my future father-in-law has a compression post off of his old sailboat that is in immaculate condition and its a 30 year old piece of african mahog. that begging to be made into necks. so my second may turn into a guitar for him. i'll be sure to keep the forum posted. as for the fingerboard; I think zircote is kinda like a rosewood but I could be very wrong, I ended up picking it because it has a feel of a rosewood fretboard but the grain and sap wood figure I thought would look amazing. |
