The newest Luthier Tips du Jour instructional video is on Youtube. The topic is kerfing. Subtitles are available in both English and Portuguese and you can translate them into any other language by using the CC option on Youtube. As always, comments and discussion are welcome. Enjoy! |

Very helpful video Robbie. One big question though- where can I find a can of that guitar builders whoop ass? I think that is what my shop has been missing. |

Thanks Robbie, Good info as usual. It might help me improve on my 50% breakage factor. That's interesting what you claim about the stiffening of sides with reverse kerf. I just made my second batch of kerfing..... linings, whatever and decided to try non reverse kerf. Yes , you can't see the breaks as easly, but I never had the sides out of the mould so couldn't tell if they are more or less stiff. I have another awaiting linings and I'll see if I can tell the difference in the feel of the sides. I'm curious what others think about one verses the other. FWIW I personally prefer the AJAX brand of Whoop Ass but I guess whatever gets you through the day. Cheers, Danny |

Robbie: Thanks for the tutorial. How about doing one on solid linings? FYI, I just bought your finishing DVD. You are a great teacher! Your format of slides, video, and calm but engaged narrative is the best combination I've seen. Thanks Danny R. Little |
