Post subject: | Removing a headstock |
Hey everyone, I glued the scarf joint for the headstock on the mandolin I'm building, but after some reading and observation, I have come to the decision to remove the headstock and join it as a volute, as in, join the headstock on the top of the ramp rather than the bottom of the neck blank. What's the best way to remove the headstock without removing wood? I do have enough left on the headstock to do this so it will work, I just want to know the best way to go about it. |

Well ... without removing wood ... it will need heat .. but you will likely end up warping one or both pieces, requiring cleanup with a plane .. so you might as well take it off on the bandsaw with a fine blade ... can you afford a 1/16 or so ?? |

Ha, no prolly not. I'll just cut it off and plane. Hopefully that'll go nice and smooth. |
