Speaking of Ovations,
I have a few school cellos awaiting the bad news conversation with the district.
These are the mind blowingly cheep ones that must be built and dipped in a vat of polyester finish within moments of the trees hitting the ground.
The only way to relieve the stress in these things would be to loosen the tops stem to stern.
Not a problem on a decent cello, but getting through the 1/8" plastic goobber at the seam would be ugly if done fast enough to be worth it, (I've spent too much time scoring with a knife on others)
`I'm thinking about oscillating tools! not much to loose. Run a thin blade along the sides and against the top like a door jam. probably loose .015"-.025" of body depth when all is said and done but better than the fire heap.
Anybody else out there have experience or Ideas for dealing with these candy apple finish beasties?
Am I going down for even thinking along these lines? idunno
