I just got a 1/4" di. blood stain on raw BE maple.

I like to leave a little blood on most things I build for others, especially things for my wife. It lets them know what you put into it.  Otherwise, what Tony said.Danny |

I got it out fairly easily with hydrogen peroxide. I found 2 spots on some holly & it came out even easier. thanks MM |

Bleach or peroxide will do the trick, but I would "blot" it off. Just to be careful that the wood tone (color) does not change in the affected area. Something chemically softer is woolite oxyclean, this stuff takes red wine out if fabric. But never tried it on wood. |

It's a lot like bloodwood: it's a really nice red colour initially but it turns kind of a gross brown eventually... On my first guitar, I never noticed that I'd nicked my finger as I was going around with a chisel cleaning up the top carve...I got 1/4 of the way around the guitar before my arm moved enough that I saw the tail end of the 6" streak of blood I'd left on the guitar. Sharp chisel I had no great ideas, though, so I sanded it out. |

Every single instrument me has ever built has at least one drop of my blood on it some wheres. Me thinks its part of some sacred ritual of the ancient and accepted art of luthiery.  blessings  Padma

I know accidents happen, but if they happen on a regular basis, you might want to review your technique. Pushing a cutting tool in the direction of your hand is never a good idea. Keeping both hands on a chisel will prevent a lot of potential accidents. I have found that having the guitar body or neck securely clamped helps a lot. |

It seems like everytime I get a chisel in my hands I always cut myself. I'm like Padma, it seems like a ritual now. Just think, if Tony Stradivari left some blood stains on some of his fiddles maybe we can clone him, or a couple hundred years from now, someone can clone The Padma.....Great Idea !!! Hutch |
