I did however add one major upgrade. ![]() Attachment: DSC05660.JPG Oh and I got some new zoot, some gorgeous bubinga billets I hope to get four sets out of: Attachment: DSC05661.JPG Attachment: DSC05665.JPG And some pretty cool ziricote: Attachment: DSC05669.JPG Whats new and exciting in your shop??? |

Been working in a poorly lit unfinished basement. Just got done installing three $10 shop florescent light bulb fixtures, what a difference! I can actually see my mistakes now.....maybe that isn't a good thing ![]() |

Yeah... Doncha just hate it when you get those mistakes under fluorescent light? I blew a power supply on one of my fluorescent fixtures last week & my work is looking much better. |

www.buildingmyfirstguitar.blogspot.com Just today I got the holes for the pickups routed out. Yesterday finished carving out the inside of my top and made some pickup mounting rings out of that piece of bocote. Going to have a matching fretboard, finger-rest, truss rod, pickup mounting rings, and tailpiece from the same piece of bocote. Putting together the box on monday and cutting out the soundholes. |

![]() I am working on my Jeff Beck signature model ![]() This is my second build, first neck. My first build took 51 weeks of R&D, hiding in fear from it lol and completion. This build is all scratch, I made the 00 form July 5th. I have sat down 2 times to watch a neck build DVD. I keep falling asleep! I rescued the Sycamore from a burn pile a few years ago, Adi wide grain top, 3 piece Maple neck. Maple binding I picked up at the Blues Creek gathering ![]() The butterfly sticks in the sound hole with mini Magnets, the ripples are hand sanded. The finish is going to be? ![]() Hopefully I will get the courage up to finish the neck, or make progress this week. Strong coffee and some DVD's this weekend! |

Adding on to my shop for a compressor, paint booth, and lumber storage. There used to be a window where the new door is. Outside a 7' x 15' pad with a 7' x 4' porch to the right. There will be a door where the pick insulation is soon. |

Grumble - entertainment center in the works - thing is keeping me from the guitars. Attachment: entertain.jpg Ed - I hope that shop improvement isn't attached to the router table or table saw ![]() ![]() |

Guess it was about time to clean the shop. After re-sawing the sapele, I didn't have room for it, so I had to re-stack the guitar shelf. ![]() That lead to a relative disaster in the shop, so it's been a 3 day cleanup. I hate cleaning. ![]() ![]() Now, where was I? ![]() |

Interesting stuff going on all around- as usual! Jim- not the router table or tablesaw, the gobar deck... hopefully I dont earn the nickname one eyed Ed. Haans- I feel your pain, I have been cleaning like mad. Its not fun when your shop doubles as storage. YJ John- Thats quite the rosette! Post pics when your finished please. Goregantuan- Nice picks! |

The Explorer sits in the same state, waiting for a bridge and finish... That's what's in the shop. In the Fed-Ex truck however is all the fixins' for a mahogany and Sitka 12 string. Haven't decided on the body shape yet, but can't wait to get started! |

Got my solid form for my side bender made. Thanks for the tutorial Todd Stock. Anybody that plans on making one, might consider taking your router outside if possible, you would not believe the amount of saw dust created by the time you are done. I couldn't because I have mine built into my table saw, let me tell you my shop is a MESS! |

Trevor, that's pretty sharp. I love how the rosette ties in with the FB inlay. Way cool! |

I'd show u pics, but OLF does not allow iPhones to upload pics... And since all my pics are on my iPhone....argh!! I rebuilt my bending machine. Made it stronger and heavier to handle the harp guitar molds. Built a new bending mold for the harp guitar. Of note, I bought a 18 g nail gun for assembly (shapes held apart using wood slats). Cut sides out of bubinga and bent one side using my first heat blanket from blues creek. Wow! That is WAY better than light bulbs! |

I just took these shots on Friday before I left the shop ... have been emailing in-progress-photos to my customer so that he can see how his instrument is coming along. The guitar is a Sitka/Brazilian with side port and checkered marquetry. I'm looking forward to getting the neck done next week and starting the French Polishing! ![]() Cheers! I am working on a new rosette. The mosaic is from a Santos Hernandez design. I've been thinning veneers to 0.50 mm and cutting strips for buiding the mosaic, rope edge treatment and line work. I routed a channel in a workboard to arrange and trim the mosaic tiles. This time I'm going to install the rosette elements directly into the guitar top. Hopefully, the mosaic tiles will expand to fill in spaces when I glue them into the rosette channel. Here are a couple of pix: Attachment: Santos Rosette work-1.jpg Attachment: Santos helix mosaic.JPG Thanks for looking. Max |
