| Post subject: | Laminated Linings |
I am keen to try the laminated linings as shown in the John S Bogdanovich book. As far as I can make out the laiminated sandwich is bent whilst the glue is still wet, is this correct? Are there any otehr methods for creating laminated linings ? J |

I use spruce or basswood. I bend the individual pieces over an iron quickly, to get them sort of to shape. Then I let the lining pieces sit over night or longer in my molds. Then I laminate them with LMI glue and a ton of clamps. Once the linings come out of the mold I cut them in half on my bandsaw so I get two linings per. I then run each lining over a champhering bit to give the lining a pleasant profile.. Shown in the pic is two molds as I make a cuttaway side as well. It is amazing how much these linings stiffen up a side of a guitar over kerfed lining. I wouldn't make a guitar without them... |

That can be done if you are using very thin laminate strips as he does in the book. My laminate strips are .080, so I bend them just like sides. I use hot hide glue and clamp the assembly in a mold. |
