Forgive the rather descriptive title. Here's a Ziricote wedge just finished on a new deep body OM. Client sent the Ziricote for back/sides, and also sent the African blackwood for the bindings. The wedge is a bookmatched piece of Ziricote that takes advantage of some sapwood. This is a recurring theme on the guitar, so the owner and I thought this would be appropriate. Looks great, Steve! I like it a lot! Very elegant. Thanks for showing it to us. Here's one where I used eucalyptus burl for the wedge (matching the rosette) and walnut for the bindings (matching walnut neck) with fine black/maple purflings. |

'Figuratively' speaking that really is a beautiful guitar Steve! Wow, great figure. Quite distinctive and really an eye catcher. At first glance it appeared to be Black Palm on either side of the sapwood on the wedge. Please post again after you get it sealed and finished. Keep up the great work! |

Outstanding in every detail, as per usual, Steve! I really love the wood combinations. I too have a gorgeous set of Ziricote with lots of sapwood, just like yours. I don't have blackwood, but I do have ebony bindings that I think would do nicely. I was wondering, though, where did you cut the pieces for the wedge? I'm thinking the sapwood is in the middle, so you either got it from the back pieces, or possibly, the side pieces. Either way, that would mean that the pieces were long enough to accomodate both the back and wedge...or you had more plank to work with that just the usual B&S... That will look killer under finish! |

Thanks so much, gents! Even pulled Billy out of retirement...I'm honored! Alain, that extra Ziricote came from Hibdon (as did the set itself). I called 'em and asked if they had some scraps lying around, and indeed they did. Cut-offs from a run of fretboard blanks. These were purchased for the rosette blank, and I got to thinking that some sliver of Ziricote--like this--might look nice at the posterior.
