I just built a three layer MDF mold for my harp guitar project. It's about 3" wide. It us shaped just like the harp guitar in a bid to reduce weight. It's still darn heavy. Question is, have I goofed? Will this thing be too flexible given that it's made entirely out of MDF? |

Should be fine. I used the same. Have you got a photo? |

Yes I do have pictures! But can't upload them with my iPhone and I'm too lazy to find a computer. But I can upload it at work tomorrow. Maybe one day lance will fix the server bug. |

It's probably fine. Feels quite rigid. |

I have sound the MDF will move ,it is ok for a build or 2 . Just by adding a layer of plywood will stiffen it consierably |

I've only ever had MDF moulds, some have had 10+ guitars made in them and they are still as good as new. Colin |

If the wood in the mold is so springy that its bending the mold, there's a problem. I use MDF molds on all of my guitars. Never a problem. You should be just fine. |

Well, like I said, it is pretty darn rigid. It was only after I built it I got to thinking about it. I know guy who built a work bench using 3 layers of 3/4" MDF and he had flex problems. I like John's idea of sandwiching a piece of plywood. Maybe on my next go around if I can ever find Baltic birch locally. Lets see how it behaves with waist exspanders. BTW, when did we get automatic spell checking? Mike |
