A while back I posted pics of my 1st done and my 2nd in progress. Well, here are some more pics of the french polish progress. I think I am happy with the amount of shellac I have applied, however, I am unable to get to the gloss I want with just glazing alone. Not sure what I am doing wrong... I am going to let it harden for a while and then try some meguiar's #7 on it and call it done! -Eric oh yes, here is the link. Most of the pics are just different angles and attempts to try and show the gloss. I will say, it looks much better in person. The sapele almost "shimmers" when I move it back and forth! http://www.flickr.com/photos/ericlyndse ... 472612147/ |

Looks good to me! It's not nitro, after all. I don't think that ultimate high gloss finish is really what you are shooting for with french polishing. To me, it's supposed to look like its more part of the wood, not a plastic layer on top. |

thank you! I guess I'm not complaining too much. It is already 10 times better than my first build's finish! I went and picked up some meguiars #7 at NAPA today so I will be ready to buff when the time is right. I am planning on doing it by hand. Anyone have any tips? Should i just use an old t-shirt for the applicator? -Eric |
