Hi all, As I'm getting close to bracing my first top I thought I'd ask a question of the classical/flamenco builders. When making your solera does your neck projection match your doming? For example: If you've got X mm of doming scooped out of the lower bout, should the amount you ramp the neck section also be X mm? Maybe people could post what their measurements are for these two dimensions please? I've looked at several books and am trying to fix my understanding of the correlation between the two. There is no way to tell, exactly without drawing it out. There are so many variables in the finished instrument. You have to know exactly how you are going to build. Are you going to taper your finger board? Do you want a sloped saddle? How much dome? Raised lower bout in the solera? Some builders get away with no slope in the neck in the solera. Your drawing doesn't have to be good, but it should have accurate measurements at the bridge and at the nut, and you then need to see what the action would be at the 12th fret with the various angles. I don't know what plan you are using or what book you are reading, but most will give you some information about that particular design. |

What Waddy said . Make a plan (drawing) of what you want the finished guitar to be. I think David Laplante did a post or added to a post in the last month on how he does his. Mike |
