I have a can of Sealcoat that is dated 06-22-09. I purchased another can recently and the stamped code reads "Lot S0413A". Has the manufacturer changed their dating system. I am not sure how to interpret these letters and numbers. Any ideas? |

You may be right. This particular batch tends to gum up sand paper. |

Over many years of using the Zinsser, I have never had it go bad-the "Seal Coat"-I have not used the "Shellac." |

My problem with Seal Coat has been that it eats through the can bottoms. I had a gallon in my shop, that I used, from time to time when I needed spit coats while working a top, or for coating jigs, but not for FP a guitar. Here's where it ended up. I walked in the shop, and smelled something funny, and saw this. It was already dry. The bottom of the can around the edges was mush. Attachment: P1030952 (Large).JPG This was the second can. I caught the first one leaking, and poured the stuff into a new can from HD, and thought it was a fluke. Apparently not! ![]() |

WELL? Did you rub it up with wool in linen or the less trustworthy laundered "T" shirt material? ![]() |

Same thing happened to me with one can, Waddy. I couldn't figure out how the bottom could have gpttem punctured. Now I understand. Max |

I was about to post the other day about the very same thing! I"ve had TWO cans leak out, one of them dripped all of its contents off the edge of one of my tables, and onto the newly refinished hardwood living room floor (Yikes! I haven't told the boss yet!) It's a big gummy blob now ![]() |

I checked my cans which are quart cans and there is no indication of failure on mine so mabey it's just the gal. size that's effected. ![]() |

I guess finding a Tuppperware to put the can in now is a priority - I keep mine inside the house as well... |

Tupperware would be a good idea. Rubbermaid has some pretty good containers that I use for my shellac that I mix, which would be good, but, they only hold about a pint. I'm sure they make a quart container that would seal tight too. |
