Remove the pivot pin and it is also an Excellent purfling cutter - the block as a guide against a fence and scribe/cut to width!!
I've been trying to solve that "how do I cut cleanly purfling" cleanly question for a while.

This is a rosette scribe that I use to reduce the fuzz that occurs during the routing process of rosette channels. I've delt with fuzzy rosette channels for way too long and finally did something about it recently. I just sandwich a scapel blade between the brass plate and arm. To use the tool, scribe the edges of the cut prior to routing the channel, thus eliminating the fuzz. This tool was a breeze to make and it works wonderfully. Oh, there's a pivot hole on the bottom of the block. Attachment: rosette scribe.jpg

Jim, I really like your design. I will probably replicate it - thanks for the idea ! This one seems simple to make and strong as well. I bet this design can also use a strong blade as well. |

Nice design, Jim. I believe I'll add the pressure plate to mine. It will keep it from moving the shaft as you tighten it. That's been a problem that I've noticed once you have tightened in one place, it's hard to move a half mm and stay there. |

I've the LMI/Schneider gramil for years to scribe my purfling channels before routing, so this was just an adaptation of that tool. You could easily sandwich most any knife in it for the cutter. I was originally planning on using my gramil blade but since I only have about .02-.03 of blade sticking out I decided it probably wouldn't matter what blade I used, so I just grabbed a scalpel blade. The pressure plate does seem work well and the adjustments don't seem to jump around on you. A nicer thumb screw is coming shortly.
