Post subject:  Fox Bender Modifications

Hi

I made my fox bender from the LMI plans, it differs slightly as I had no intentions of using bulbs just a blanket. I also didn't include the bottom aluminum caul that is located at the bottom of the sandwich that slots into the mold.

I have decided to give it a remodel (re build) as I made a few mistakes along the way, my slots at the side are not parallel and the veneer clamp came loose. I know I can do a better job.

Are there any mods / improvements that worked for you on your set up I would like include them in my re design.

I am thinking of adding a third caul etc

Thanks in advance

J

There are simplified plans available from Sylvan Welles Guitars - you'll pay for access to that part of his site, but it gets rid of all vestiges of the light bulbs and makes the side plates a lot simpler.

I don't use the adjustable shoe - a dedicated caul for each mold is less fussy and does a more consistent job...simple to make. Without the need to house three bulbs, the base can be made shorter so as to easily handle Size 5 and some tenor uke sides...I'd trim off at least an inch of length.

I have a paid up subscription to Sylvan's website - I'll take a look.

Thanks for the tip, this is just the sort of thing I am looking for.
