Post subject:  plates with S-curves

Anyone had back plates that has developed a S-curve? I got some indian rosewood plate and one of the halves has a slight S-surve lengthwise on one side. I am thinking of maybe wetting then heating them with water while clamping the whole plate to a board.

Not an uncommon problem. In most cases it is the wood trying to acclimate to a new environment. If the wood sets to the curve of the bracing with minimal effort IE use spring clamp and see if the plates take the curvature . If it does you should be just fine. I have used a number of sets like that in my years. If they are a good year old you should be fine.
I take a cloths iron first and just use the dry heat setting. Work one plate at a time and you will see the water start working out at the ends. It may take 10 to 15 minutes per plate , This will ofter bring things back. I do cupped side up. On Propeller warp it may not matter , just work both sides. This should drive out excess moisture and allow you to use them. Then clamp them down flat foe a few days and see how they look. Even if you can't get the warp out , getting the moisture out will make them more stable for the build as long as they loosen enough to allow the braces to make them curve as you need them to ,

Thanks for the advise. I examined it further and realized it may have been stickered improperly (causing the S-curve). I'll try the iron idea... I have a throwaway iron for that purpose (I used it for carpet installation a while ago... so they have a bit of the heat set gunk on it)
