Does anyone know anything about this mini dust collector on sale at Highland Woodworking? I'm tired of listening to my shop vac, and don't have the money to spend on dust collection at this time. http://www.highlandwoodworking.com/stee ... 65115.aspx Thanks,Wendy |

Just keep an eye on craigslist. They sell here all the time for $75-$200.00. I bought a nice delta last year for $90.00 , retails for $400.00 |

My shop is tiny and my machines are all on wheels and parked by the wall. Storage space is at a minimum so I don't relish the idea of bringing in anything sizeable. When I want to use a machine I roll it out. I would use it for one machine at a time, and I'm sick of listening to my shop vac when I use my thickness sander, so low noise would be a definite selling point. I hadn't been looking for anything, just happened to see the ad today, and at $49 I thought it was worth asking. It says CFM is 300 and the chip capacity is 3 cubic feet. I'm really interested in knowing if anyone has any idea how loud it is. I don't mind the noise of my shop vac so much when I'm just making cuts on my table saw or bandsaw, but when I'm running my thickness sander for a long time it makes it a much less pleasant experience. So if there is anyone out there who has used one of these I'm curious to know what you think. |

300 CFM and 30 micron filter is not that useful, I bought a 1 hp with 1 micron bag and 600 cfm and it is ok but I wish I had bought a 2hp unit even though I only use on 1 machine at a time. As for noise any shop vac I have seen is much louder than my dust collector. Fred |

I don't know anything about this dust collector from Rockler, but I just saw it in the catalog. Combined with the flexible wall mounted hose, it looks like it would be ideal for a small shop. It has a 3/4 hp motor with 650 cfm suction. It also has an optional 5 micron bag. The dust collector is here: http://www.rockler.com/product.cfm?page=21255&filter=dust%20collection And the flexible hose is here: http://www.rockler.com/product.cfm?page=21316 |

Thanks everyone. I figured at $49 it couldn't hurt to ask, but I guess, as usual, you get what you pay for and I got the answers I expected. I'll pass on it and wait until I can get something better. |
