Here is a VERY nice set of Madagascar Rosewood. It has fantastic color and variegation. It is large enough for a classical or 00 size guitar. Retail value on these really nice sets is $400, but you can end the auction early for $300 and get free domestic shipping. This set has a reserve of $200. The auction ends tomorrow (THURSDAY) at 3PM EST. Good Luck. |

All recent Allied sets in their weekly special, even in the high 250-300$ range, have been bland and with huge flatsawn areas on the back. This set has figure and much less flatsawn, definitely better than those 300$ sets. |

Well yeah your are right about the size and all, but honestly if Todd can supply me with wood like that sample set, for 250$ classical, fully quartersawn AND figured, I swear i buy 10 right now. |

Here's an amen to Filippo's comment. When we visited Allied last summer, we were amazed at the selection, and just how much wood doesn't make it onto the web site. I guess there's just no way to list it all. They really have deep reserves... call 'em. Steve |

Well... this set has been around for a while. And when I recently ran into a little stash of sets with similar color and figure they were all $400+ (It wasn't Todd but another seller). Any way you slice it the reserve is a very good price and the set is very nice. |

So what is the width of the back plates? (Which template is getting trimmed off at the edges there? I like thin bindings.) |

Jim Kirby wrote: So what is the width of the back plates? (Which template is getting trimmed off at the edges there? I like thin bindings.) That's the classical template. What I would do if you need a little more width is to flip the cut out area of the waist down into the lower bout. If you do that you can easily get an OM or larger set with this. I do that all the time. If you are careful about how you match the join you will never see it. |

Filippo Morelli wrote: Sorry I'm confused. Are you saying the template with a majority of the lower bout hips drawn off the wood is a classical template? Filippo Majority? It is just a tiny bit. Either enough that the binding channels will remove enough that it won't matter, or a tiny wing in the lower bout will more than off set it. I am not trying to be argumentative, but I do this all the time. It is a nice way to make sets that are just a skosh to small (;) nod to Robbie) to work very well. Most of the time you can never tell. |
