Greenman wrote:  While writing my post on bandsaw blades I was thinking about my visit to Ralph Charles this weekend to see his tonewood operation and to pick his brain on resawing. Ralph is a forrester by trade and over the last few years has set up a small tonewood business. He knows were logs are being cut and shows up to see if any are Red Spruce of good quality. He then buys one or two good ones and processes them. He built a special carriage on a Laquna bandsaw to cut up the wedges. I think he said he uses Suffolk Machinery's 1" 3tpi blade. I guess spruce is difficult to cut for a soft wood. He also uses a motorized stock feeder to push the wood through. I came away with three nice tops and a nice free pile of brace wood. Worth checking out if you are near Plattsburgh New York. For us folks on the other side of the country, can you provide any contact information...telephone, business address, email? |
