Post subject:  Baritones and commissions

Hello everyone,

I've been fooling around with the search engine and I read some interesting points, but I'd like to bring back the subject of the first commission and the baritone acoustic guitar.

What lead me to do this is the fact that I've just pulled off my first one. It's going to a young portuguese fingerstyle player. who's after a guy to build him a good acoustic. He wanted a multiscale instrument with all the bells and whistles, but I said that I'm not comfortable with that right know, and mostly because while I want to make guitars, I wanna make them consistently, so I'd like to be able to learn from my previous work, taking down the highest possible number of variables.

He understood and we've settled for a baritone acoustic guitar w/ florentine cutaway, which will allow him to write some new repertoire. I managed to charge about USD2000 for this job and I'm probably going to build one or two prototype guitars along the way. I'll get the first 50% when I start designing the instrument and the rest will come upon delivery. That'll allow me to get some tools that will be crucial for this build, and also the relevant materials.

I would very much like to get your input about building the baritone (which for me is both a fascinating instrument and a challenge), and the ins and outs of handling a commission, like what would you mention on a contract and stuff alike.

I plan to keep track of the building, so you can expect a new thread soon!

Thank you so much for this place! Feels like home.

Cheers
