I have a 2nd grade ebony violin fingerboard with that pattern too, though even more pronounced. The spots are much more black than the rest of the wood, as well as reflecting differently. Woooooow. Really cool stuff. The only thing I've inlaid here recently is a zero clearance insert on a freakin bandsaw!!! ![]() Some day I too will have 'mad skills'! Chris |

bubbles is what i say too! hey, i think you should ( i hate it when somebody says that to me!) is put some eyes on those whales, and then maybe some small ab dots over their blow holes. i like what you did. don't let them sit around and warp. |

I see those spots in ebony blanks now all the time .. I think its some kind of mineral stain. |
