I've been doing it this way for 10 years. If you have a symmetrical headstock it gets them right every time. The jig for a Martin style headstock is simpler. The key is a drill guide bushing that I think Rockler still carries. You insert a sleeve and then can screw various sized drill guides into it. You just flip the jig over and screw the bushings into the other side for the second set of holes. They come out symmetrical every time and you don't need a drill press, just a backing board. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Nice looking jig, Terry. I use those same drill guides...they make for accurate, straight and repeatable holes indeed. |

Yup, been doing it that way on mandolins for 25 years. Use a modified Stew-Mac for slot head 12's and also 6's. I can't think of a better way to do it. ![]() |
